Get dad something good for Father’s Day

Father’s Day is nearly upon us. And when it comes to finding a good gift for the man who’s notoriously hard to shop for, it’s the thought that counts. However, sometimes we could all probably think a bit harder and give Dad a gift that’s both thoughtful for him and the planet, too.

On that note, research also reveals that Aussies are only spending an average of 1.5 days thinking about, researching and shopping for a gift on Father’s Day, with 3.2 million Aussies usually ending up rushing to buy a gift the day before.

Unfortunately, the issue is that gifts are more often than not, wasted. A recent YouGov Galaxy Research 10 August 2018 released figures that Australians are spending an average of $65 each and wasting and accumulative $58.2 million on unused gifts on Father’s Day every year, with almost half of Dads (43%) admitting that they have received Father’s Day gifts that have never been used or worn. Not only is this a waste of money, many of these unused gifts end up in landfill. So, both Dad and the planet lose out.

The rise of the Eco-conscious Dad

Thankfully, Aussie Dads are becoming a lot more planet-thoughtful than the generations that preceded them. For instance, they’re increasing their support for all kinds of worthwhile environmental and social issues from homelessness to reducing waste. So, they’re primed for a gift that will affect change for the better.

According to Galaxy’s research, 77% of Aussie Dads said they would like to be gifted a gift that gives back to social or environmental causes. So, even though Dad might not seem that trendy, he’s quietly riding a trend which sees more than nine in ten fathers (92%) doing things in their household to help teach their kids about living sustainably.

Moral of the story, Dad is always thinking ahead. Now, you can too with a special gift from ING Dreamstarter – a selection of ethically and socially minded Father’s Day gift ideas from businesses that exist to make our world a better place for current and future generations.
