Duncan & Sable: Stage 4 -Knowing I’d found ‘The One’

After losing that house on the Bellarine Rail Trail, it took another week or so until I found the place I would end up buying. That morning, I walked through this particular house straight onto the balcony and watched as a cargo ship slowly rolled into Corio Bay. From there I could see the expanse of grass and walking trails running for kilometres along the coastline, and I could practically see Sable and I strolling along them each morning.

As objectively perfect as this house was, what I personally loved – and still very much do love – about it is that it’s not just a house, it’s a home. There will always be better, bigger houses out there but you just cannot compensate for feeling truly ‘at home’.

The road to making this house my home wasn’t always smooth sailing though. Nearly immediately after I had put down my offer, I was taking off back to Western Australia for family reasons. Having applied for pre-approval with ING DIRECT at the beginning of my search was a good source of confidence, though. If it hadn’t been the case, there would’ve been no way I’d gone in and made the offer. At least with pre-approval, and just generally being in a fairly good financial position personally, I knew I had some security. In a time where I was already under family-related stress, this was much appreciated. As I boarded that plane, already a bit distracted given my circumstances, I was still able to keep my concern at bay knowing that ING DIRECT would help guide me through the home loan process.
