Duncan & Sable: Stage 4 -Knowing I’d found ‘The One’

After losing that house on the Bellarine Rail Trail, it took another week or so until I found the place I would end up buying. That morning, I walked through this particular house straight onto the balcony and watched as a cargo ship slowly rolled into Corio Bay. From there I could see the expanse of grass and walking trails running for kilometres along the coastline, and I could practically see Sable and I strolling along them each morning.

As objectively perfect as this house was, what I personally loved – and still very much do love – about it is that it’s not just a house, it’s a home. There will always be better, bigger houses out there but you just cannot compensate for feeling truly ‘at home’.

The road to making this house my home wasn’t always smooth sailing though. Nearly immediately after I had put down my offer, I was taking off back to Western Australia for family reasons. Having applied for pre-approval with ING DIRECT at the beginning of my search was a good source of confidence, though. If it hadn’t been the case, there would’ve been no way I’d gone in and made the offer. At least with pre-approval, and just generally being in a fairly good financial position personally, I knew I had some security. That didn’t mean I didn’t have nerves though – I didn’t want to risk losing this house too, and not being close by while everything was processed only added to the anxiety.

As objectively perfect as this house was, what I personally loved – and still very much do love – about it is that it’s not just a house, it’s a home.

ust before jetting off to Western Australia, I’d had to go through the gruelling process of getting all of the home loan paperwork signed and submitted at the post office. But honestly, ING DIRECT laid everything out so clearly – I knew exactly what I was in for when it came to what I needed to do to submit my loan application. They had taken the time to go through my options and ensure that I applied for the home loan that was best suited to me, and that I was setting up the best repayment plan for my personal situation. In a time where I was already under family-related stress, this was much appreciated. I popped into the post office, had my photo taken for the identity check and off it went electronically to ING DIRECT for approval.

As I boarded that plane, already a bit distracted given my circumstances, I was still able to keep my concern at bay knowing that ING DIRECT would help guide me through the home loan process.
