Joshua and Pia: Stage 4 – The right neighbourhood is just as important as the right home

After getting our pre-approval we knew that we could breathe a bit, taking comfort in the fact that the finance side of things would be in safe hands with ING DIRECT. That meant we were able to focus all our time and effort on the market and working with our agents to choose the right place.

Given that this would hopefully be the place we’d settle down, there were definitely things we had in mind to make our new Sydney home perfect for us. We were looking for a two-bedroom, medium-sized place. We’d hoped to find something with an open kitchen and living room, and a car space. Oh, and something that just felt right – you know, something that had good Feng Sui. Those were mandatories, and we were surprised to find so many properties in the Inner West that fit the bill.

What we liked the most was that the whole suburb still had that community feeling we were after.

Zetland in particular really stood out. It was within walking distance of both our offices, and even beyond that, we just had a great feeling around the area. There are heaps of parks in the area, and we love a good urban park.

What we liked the most, however, was that the whole suburb still had that community feeling we were after. All of the new developments only seem to be adding to the liveability of the suburb. I grew up in rural NSW, and it’s that small town sense of community that I’ve been searching for every time we’ve moved (and we’ve moved around a lot). Finally, we’d found it – in Zetland.

For two people who have gotten so used to moving from suburb to suburb and flat to flat, the fact that we felt like we could finally settle down here felt like a huge step forward in our lives.

It’s important to find out how much you can afford to borrow, then you can start looking in your desired areas for that perfect new home.
