Sam and Jordan: Stage 5 – Navigating the home loan process backwards

The weekend after finding our dream home, I won’t lie, I was a mix bag of emotions.

That night, I was mostly consumed with complete and utter excitement over the potential of our new house. I was all over Pinterest, planning potential updates and renovations, and pretty much anything you could imagine. I had so many ideas overflowing. I had worked the whole idea up so much in my head, it actually would have been a huge disappointment if this house didn’t work out.

Sunday morning, it was like I woke up with my head just a little bit clearer, and the reality of the situation hit me. We had to obtain pre-approval before making an offer. I anxiously willed Monday to come so I could speak to our home loan specialist, Gerard.

By the time Monday rolled around, I have to admit, I was pretty nervous. The real estate agent had called that morning to let us know that the seller received two additional cash offers over the weekend, and they needed to know we were serious about buying the property. We knew we definitely wanted the place, and were desperate to give the seller the concrete answer he needed. But because we weren’t expecting to buy so soon, we just needed reassurance from Gerard that it was realistic for us to get pre-approval so we could make an offer.

Early Monday morning, I gave Gerard a call. When I told him we wanted to make an offer on a house, I could hear the surprise in his voice. But he quickly replaced it with excitement and started going through our options with us. He assured me that he’d work on getting our pre-approval as quickly as possible.

Gerard simply pointed me in the right direction and then explained what we were looking at if we proceeded. These were all the things I’d read and read about, but when you’re right in the middle of it all, it’s so overwhelming. Gerard really clarified everything for us, and made sure we were completely comfortable with the process.

It was on this particularly manic Monday where I came to really appreciate professional support from a trustworthy source. Buying property is a complex, stressful – not to mention, expensive – life decision, so having someone to make sense of it all in a clear, level-headed manner made all the difference. I must have asked so many silly questions, but Gerard was always there to patiently answer every single one of them.

We were one giant leap closer to our dream home – and Gerard (and the rest of the team) were definitely a big part of why.
