Sam and Jordan: Stage 6 – Building our empire

I can’t begin to explain how much of a relief it was when we finally signed the contract to know that our dream home was one step closer to being ours. With everything having to happen so much quicker than we anticipated, we really weren’t sure if everything was going to work out the way we were hoping it would. But, thanks to Gerard’s help getting our loan underway, we were able to confidently forge ahead and take the necessary steps to secure the property.

We were even able to get final loan approval well before we needed it. With that sorted quicker than we expected, it gave me and Jordan the time to attend to settlement alongside Martine, ING’s settlement specialist.

Settlement, personally, was the most confusing part for us. So when we received our documents, we had a lot of questions. Martine patiently answered all the queries I had – even going that one step further by guiding us through what documentation was required. She dealt with us in such a relaxed and positive manner that Jordan and I were able to relax a little ourselves. With her and Gerard there to take the stress of the process away from us, we had the time and energy to focus on the excitement of having purchased our first home!

We have plenty of time to decide how we approach our new home, the possibilities are endless – and let’s just say my head is full of a hundred different dream scenarios!

I’m happy to say the hardest part is over, and settlement has just passed. For now, Jordan and I will stay in the granny flat behind Mum and Dad’s while the finer details are sorted out.

The truth is we’re still comfortable in the granny flat, so we have plenty of time to decide how we approach our new home. The possibilities are endless, and let’s just say of my head is full of a hundred different dream scenarios!

Once we work out the immediacy of the renovations we’re after, we’ll have a clear idea if this is something we can get off the ground straight away. Otherwise, we’ll probably revert back to our idea of renting the place out for a year or two to save more funds before our renovation gets underway.
