A new family can come with new surprises. But that shouldn’t mean you have more
things to worry about. When you buy a new ride, finding the best car insurance to suit your
family’s needs means you won’t lose extra sleep worrying about protecting it.
You’ve got kids now who can take care of all your sleep deprivation needs.
Taking care of your new bundle of joy
New car? The only thing better than that new car smell, is sniffing around your current car
insurance policy to make sure you’ll be covered if something goes wrong. Take a look at your
current policy and make sure it still works for you now that you’ve got a new family car.
Will third party car insurance be enough for my new family?
You might currently have third party property only insurance. But now that you’ve invested in a new car, you might want to be covered for a little more than before. When deciding what car insurance is right for you and your family, you might choose between:
- Third party property only car insurance
- Third party property, fire and theft car insurance
- Comprehensive car insurance
The best car insurance for your family will depend on what you want to have covered. Let’s break down what each different type covers.
Third party property only car insurance
If you’re in an accident, third party property only insurance will cover you for damage to someone else’s car or property. But if there’s damage to your car, you will need to cover the repairs yourself, from the family funds (that we’re sure are already in high demand).
What about third party property, fire and theft car insurance?
Third party property, fire and theft insurance covers damage to someone else’s car or property if you’re in an accident, plus it also covers if your car gets stolen or catches fire.
Comprehensive car insurance
Comprehensive insurance covers damage to your car, plus damage to someone else’s car or property.
Some car insurance companies will even include extra cover on things for families within their comprehensive policy. Like say if a thief was in the market for a baby capsule and took yours, your car insurance company might actually cover it as an added benefit to protect your personal items. Check with your car insurance company to see what you’ve got included.
What is the best car insurance for a family to have?
It’s only natural that you might be drawn to car insurance quotes that are easy on the wallet.
After all, you’ve got an extra mouth to feed now. But cheap car insurance might not always be the best option. Always check out the Product Disclosure Statement to see exactly what the policy covers and make sure you’ve got something that’ll ensure you stay as worry-free as you were before you had kids.
