Once you’ve decided on your trip, you’ll be raring to hit the road. But first, check out our handy checklist to make sure your car is in tip top shape.
Ensure your car is serviced
- Clean the car inside and out (and make sure the windscreen is sparkling clean).
- Cover headlights and front of your car with a protective sheet to prevent bugs.
- Make sure you know where your tyre iron and jack is and how to operate them.
- Check your spare tyre.
- Pack a fire extinguisher.
- Pack sun protectors for the front windows.
- Bring towels to clean dirty windshields and oil spills.
- Bring a plastic funnel for water and oil.
- Make sure you have appropriate car insurance for your car and the drivers.
- Make sure the radio and aux cord are in working order, and get your road trip tunes ready (this probably should have been number one).
- Just before you set off, make a final check of tyre condition and pressure, fuses and horn, high and low beam headlights, wipers, oils and fluids.
